The 4th Edition of Italian Design Day will be held on December 4 in Chengdu Tianfu New Area. This event is organized by the Consulate of Italy in Chongqing and Chengdu Management Committee of Tianfu New Area, in collaboration with Tianfu Cultural and Creative City Management Committee.
Conceived by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, in collaboration with the Triennale and the Salone del Mobile in Milan, the Italian Design Day (IDD) is an international event held every year in over 100 cities around the world to celebrate Italian Design and Creativity.
The main theme of the 4th edition of the IDD 2020 is going to be “Drawing the Future – Development, Innovation, Sustainability, Beauty”. The event will be attended by the famouse Italian architect Mauricio Cardenas Laverde, who was appointed “2020 Italian Design Ambassador” by a special commission of experts. Mr. Laverde, together with a team of Chinese and foreign experts, will discuss the theme of the “Conscious City”.
Park City, Humanistic Design, Sustainable Architecture, Innovative Materials will be among the topics covered during the conference. The event will also focus on the practical experience of park city construction in Tianfu New Area, using the Sino-Italian Cultural Innovation Industrial Park as a blueprint to explore new models and new paths for China-Italy cooperation to build a park city.
The famous Italian architect and “2020 Italian Design Ambassador” Mauricio Cardenas Laverde” will explain the concept of “Conscious city” via conference call.
Mauricio’s concern about the negative impact of the construction industry on the environment has led him to develop the Conscious Design method. He was selected as “Italian Innovator” by the Agency for Innovation of the ltalian Council of Ministers for his pioneer sustainable bamboo designs such as the recent INBAR Pavilion, the largest bamboo structure in Northern China. He currently teaches at Milan Politecnico, Shanghai and Beijing, and is Curator for Under The Bamboo Tree at Labirinto nella Masone. His Studio was awarded 2019 Best International Sustainable Architecture Practice by UK BUILD Magazine. In 2020 Corriere della Sera dedicated a page to him.
